Kigali is the capital and largest city of Rwanda. It is situated near the geographic centre of the nation. The city has been the economic, cultural, and transport hub of Rwanda since it became capital at independence in 1962. The main residence and offices of the President of Rwanda are located in the city, as are the government ministries.

Some people might say that the city doesn’t have much to offer and isn’t worth a stop but there really is a lot to do here and you won’t be disappointed.
Kigali Genocide Memorial
The Kigali Genocide Memorial, in Kigali, Rwanda, commemorates the Rwandan genocide in 1994. The remains of over 250,000 people are interred there. There is a visitor center for students and those wishing to understand the events leading up to the events of 1994. The Center is a permanent memorial to those who fell victim to the genocide and serves as a place in which the bereaved could bury their family and friends. The Center is managed and run by the Aegis Trust and the Kigali City Council.
The memorial and the memorial centre are in Gisozi which is a ten-minute journey from the centre of Kigali. It honors’ the memory of more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a guided experience. Visitors can choose to be guided by one of the staff or purchase the KGM digital guide which provides an audio-visual tour.

On the last Saturday of each month, the memorial is open from 1:00pm to 5:00pm due to Umuganda community work (last entrance is at 4:00pm).
Tour the Juru Park for a fantastic view of the city, surrounding hillside and countryside. It is one of the highest points in Kigali city. Kigali Museum and learn the history of city and country’s pre-colonial and colonial period as well as the colonial masters in Rwanda.
After experiencing the cultural aspects in Kigali you can as well travel to the Volcanoes National Park for the gorilla trekking tours and you can either do it once or the double gorilla trek. After gorilla treks you can experience the endangered golden monkey tracking, Mount Visoke and Karisimbi hike and Dian Fossey trek.
